iPhone 3G S (S stands for speed) comes out on June 19, 2009 – Mark Your Calendars!

Sweet new camera features!

very exciting because I am still using a 1st Gen iPhone. This also means buying new cases for iPhone 3G S. Luckily the 3G S is the same physical size as the iPhone 3G (all those 3rd party developers just had a huge weight lifted off their shoulders). So here are some sweet case options and everyone can help me pick which case to use!

W is for Wordpress

I’ve been looking at lots of graphic design type works. Things on color, type, inspiration. I haven’t divulged myself into too much design in a while, everything has been craft based, or influenced. So i thought I’d share this fantastic video by Brent Barson & Veer. F is for Fail explains the process a graphic designer goes through as an alphabet book. The music, colors, and use of text in this are phenominal and are worthy of note jut by themselves, but together. Let’s just say I’m really impressed.

My friend Jessica just posted one of her final projects on her blog. The book she designed falls into the same category as the veer video, what a designer/design student learns over time. Not only is her project insightful but it is excellently designed and produced, but I’d expect nothing less from her. Jessica is one of the best designers I know, top 5 hands down. She just graduated and I wish her the best as she overpowers the design world with her ingeniousness.

Finally, as color has always inspired and amused me. I ran upon this (probably via NotCot as it is one of my favorite “find sweet stuff” sites i frequent) color test. I got an 87 – 0 is apparently perfect although I don’t know the cap to say how horrifically I did. I was surprised by my results. I thought that I had done an excellent job in all the categories except the greenish teal to bluish purple. Turns out that was one of my better areas. Color is a tricky little devil. Hopefully your eyes won’t hate you after this one!

and as a last note, because its humorous + enjoyable, The Bread Art Project.

The Summit was Awesome

The Summit of Awesome, a Hello Craft extravaganza, was held this past weekend, May 1-3,2009. I spent three days meeting amazing people, learning how to pursue crafting as a business, sharing stories, buying other’s goods, and making awesome things. It was such a huge honor, and privilege to be apart of, an opportunity worth well more than I paid. Not to mention a fabulous way to spend my birthday weekend.

Friday morning consisted I went to “Street Teams. Why you should connect and collaborate.” My aunt had also signed up for the three day conference so we got to go to some of the sessions together, plus I had someone I knew there with me. Even though the event focused on meeting new people, it was nice to have one contact already formed. Following the session we had lunch with Craftnote Maria Thomas – the CEO of Etsy!! so amazing. In the afternoon I listened to the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts talk in “Am I a Business? How and when to form a business for your crafty endeavors.” Now I know I should marry a lawyer, all that stuff is too confusing for my brain. Then the highlight of the entire summit, premiere of Handmade Nation, An Indie Craft Documentary! I’ve been waiting to see it forever! It was everything and more. Can’t wait to see it again!!

Saturday was a long day. Started with “Developing a Product Line. Deciding what to make and sell.” Probably the most inspiring of all the sessions I attended. This really widened my viewpoint of what I could create, make, and sell. The Craftnote for Saturday was with Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching. She told her story of how she came to love embroidery and how she is trying to spread embroidery as a form of art. After her speech she hosted a workshop on embroidery – I now know how to correctly sew a split stitch. El Jefe along with Biggs and Featherbelle spoke about going out on a limb. I wish my photos from this session had come out better! The Show of Awesome completed the day’s events which was an awesome party to attend. There was the Make Something Awesome table, the speakers sold their goods, music, wine tasting, and a silent auction. It was open to the public so Claudia joined me and Keith, this was his first crafting event. Claudia and I have now planned our summer and work schedules around area craft fairs! Next up Art Star Craft Bazaar!

Sunday was a little more low key with only a morning session, “Copyright and Tradmarks, How to protect yourself and your work.” Lots of information I would have never known otherwise, good thing I went to this one. Copyright infringement is popping up more and more in the indie craft scene – I’m not ok with this. After there was the Awesome Elephant where everyone put in a handmade gift. I wrapped up one of my buttonhole bags that I embellished with roving and embroidery. People seemed to like it so that made me happy! I got a set of four cards with fiber embellishments, right up my alley! To conclude the Awesome weekend we took a group photo and then I headed home for a well deserved nap. A weekend long craft blast can sure take a lot out of a girl, it was totally worth it.

3rd Annual Peep Show

Every year the Washington Post holds a contest and thousands of people turn in sticky entries. They use Peeps to create dioramas and the favorites//winners are posted online and in the paper. I know a lot of people aren’t fans of the pastel colored marshmallow treats, I find them to be most tasty, but the Washington Post’s Peep Show is definitely an Easter highlight for the DC Metro Area. Here are some favorites from this year’s entries.

App-sessed

The iTunes App Store Might be my downfall. It’s so addicting and inspiring. I love that Apple is giving developers the opportunity to really show off their work and profit from it! The Apple Store windows now contain strings and strings of Apps and I’m trying to see if I can decipher all of them. It has proved to be quite a challenge. The good news is I have found two awesome pieces of App-Art and one App that brought a childhood game back into my life.

The real pigs are better, but I still love this game!

Summit of Awesome!

Hello Craft is hosting the first ever Summit of Awesome. It’s going to be a big shindig in DC in May which means two things: close to home & around my birthday – both very exciting. The list of workshops has not been posted yet but I am anxious to see what they will entail. Most exciting is going to be the premiere of Handmade Nation. I have been waiting patiently for this documentary to be released so glad a DC date has finally been set!

so excited!
